Well, Mr B, looks like they are coping very well on their own and don’t need any help – unless of course they are leaving it till the day before we go back! No, surely not …………. perish the thought

Hello. Just a few questions about the huge number of exercises I have been trying to work through..
For 6. (Further work with Indicies) Ex 1F part f. the question is just printed 3x^0.5 X 4x^- .. is that meant to be ^-1 or something else..
and for 8. (Rationalising the Denominator) Ex 1H do we need to just rationalise the denominator and then simplify them rather than solving them?
Finally, do all of the graphs need to be drawn accurately or can the first ones just be sketched..
Thank you!
I’m nearly finished! yay!
Hope you’re all having a good summer.

Hi Grace,
Welcome back to the blog
Hope you’ve had a good summer and congrats on your fantastic GCSE results.
Now down to the serious stuff – whose turn is it to make the tea??
Ex1F Q1f: second power is -0.5
Ex1H Q8 rationalise and/or simplify? You can’t ’solve’ as there is no unknown and it isn’t an equation!!! (You knew that
)
Are the graphs Ex 2A? If so, as it says from x=-4 to +4, you are expected to do a table of values and plot the points.
See you soon

Thank you very much.
yes, I knew that :\
I think my brain has shrunken over the summer.. uh oh.
Have a good end of the summer
Thank you
Grace.

Oops! Sorry J and everyone else – I did mean to scan them and do so, but obviously didn’t. What I’ll do is try to get them on this site by Monday. That OK?
BTW – well done everyone on an excellent set of GCSE results! 19 A* – thank you Div 1!

yah thats fine thanks
could you help me with a few questions then please?
so far i am stuck on Ex2B questions 21 and 22. i may be being very stupid but i cant see how they can be sloved via factorising.
also on Ex 1H questions 14 and 16, i have rationalised the demoniators but i seem to get a very long top parts of the fraction (sorry i cant remember what thats called :s)
for example:
Ex 1H question 14:
i have got (12-4√2 + 3√5 – √2√5) / 11
but i think i can simplify the top bit more and im just not quite sure how.
please could you help?
thankyou

Don’t worry! Just to let you know – I’ve seen this and will reply (if Ms T doesn’t sooner!) but got to go out to theatre, so can’t right now!

Hi Jacynth,
Sorry, only just got in!
In 1HQ14, take common factor out of first 2 terms and common factor out of last 2 terms and you’ll then get a bracket common factor to tidy it up.

Q21 and 22 – leave your answers in surd form (see examples 6 and 7)

would it be possible to have the answers aswell please?

I have an issue with surds:
when rationalizing a surd can one also simplify it in the process
e.g. sqrt8 + sqrt7 divided by sqrt8 + sqrt7
can i simplify the 8 = 2 x sqrt2??
does that make sense??
