  34. HAVE U DONE UR HOMEWORK YET!

  35. HELLO MY FRIEND I HOPE U R ENJOYING UR HOLIDAYS. GOOD LUCK FOR THE EXAMS.

  36. miss tibble do you know any ways of revising maths?

  37. Two blonde guys were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up. A woman walked by and asked them what they were doing. “We’re supposed to measure the height of this flagpole,” said blonde guy number one, “but we don’t have a ladder.” The woman took a wrench from her purse and loosened some bolts. The guys helped her lay down the flagpole. Then the woman got a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement and said, “Eighteen feet, six inches,” and walked away. Blonde guy number two shook his head and laughed. “Isn’t that just like a girl? We ask for the height and she gives us the length!”

  38. i read it but i dont understand?

  39. lol Jemila!!! Think about it ;-)

Re revision: the only way to revise maths is to do it! Practise doing questions – use the revision exercises in the book or do questions you have done before which have been marked so that you have solutions to check against afterwards.
    Reading doesn’t work with maths.

  40. Use the link to BBC bitesize years 7-9 too (see under links at top of page)

  41. hello everyone!

  42. how your holiday been?

  43. by the way thank you Mrs tibble

  44. hiya ppl

howz holidays been done any revision

    bi

  45. SORRY BUT CANT DO THE HOMEWORK SO WHAT SHALL I DO ON CORDINATES

  46. What’s the problem with the homework Azaly?

  47. i cant do the q5

  48. i forgot what to do

  49. Remember what we looked at today on the graphs on the laptops. The number on its own in the equation ie not attached to the x, tells you where the line crosses the y axis.

For Q8 look at your notes: the bigger the number, the steeper the line.

Have another look at it – it’s alot easier than you think! Good luck :-)

  50. can you explain if you can

  51. thanx

    azaly

  52. v. srry again but if it is a – or + what does it again

  53. Read the sign with the number to find the y intercept.

  54. so if y=x+3=3?

  55. or would it be 6

  56. ???????????????

  57. If the number tells you the intercept, why would it be 6? I can’t see a 6 in the equation!

  58. so will it be 3?

  59. Are there any other numbers in the equation?

The number tells you the intercept, so if the number is +3 then the line crosses the axis at +3.

  60. or a positive 3

  61. Aren’t they the same thing?? You are making difficulties where there aren’t any, Azaly!

  62. okay i think i finally got srry to botther u

  63. That’s OK! Hope the rest are alright now.

  64. I am really stuck on the maths homework! I don’t understand moving the decimal place! Particularly q3 on ex 7q

  65. Hi Ella,

What you say you are stuck on doesn’t relate to question 3, does it??

Q3 says change the fraction 7/8 into a decimal. This is what we were doing in the lesson today.
    7/8 means 7 divided by 8 so do a division sum: 8 into 7.000

If that doesn’t help, post again trying to be a bit more specific about the place where you get stuck.

    Mrs T

  66. I’m fine now my mum helped me work it out

  67. Thank you for helping me!

  68. You’re welcome :-)

And well done to your Mum for helping – make her a cup of tea Ella ;-)

  69. Sorry I have just done a bit more and I am now stuck on ex7r q1b and 2b

  70. Sorry for disturbing you!

  71. If you divide by 100, the numbers will all move 2 columns to the right (because the number is getting smaller) – see page 122 and the questions you did from 7C.

Q2b – do the division sum – just like we did today.

    Hope that helps :-)

  72. Hi i was wondering what ques we were suppose 2 go up 2 on ex 7Q

    is it 7 or 9

    thanx

  73. Q7 Azaly.

  74. thanx srry i left my journal at sch so i forgot what ques becausei came back from a hockey match that sydenham won !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thank u anyway :-)

  75. Fantastic!! Well done :-D

  76. Hi can i go up to 34 on our hw becoz i am near to the end so i mitaswell
    hope dats ok bye u

    bi

    azaly :-D

  77. Feel free!!!

  78. ;-)

  79. Hello Mrs Tibble
I am really stuck on the q’s on pg 159 Q21,22,23
    Can you help me?
    Aggie

  80. Hi Aggie,

Q21 – how many lots of 4 inches do you need to make 2 feet?

Q22 – turn the mile into yards, then subtract

Q23 – Change the mile into feet.

  81. But in the text book on the other page it only says 12 inches, what do i do?

  82. 12 inches makes 1 foot, so how many inches make 2 feet?
How many lots of 4 is this?

  83. Thank you so much for your help, it was a long slow proccess but I eventualy did it!
    See you tommorrow
I better have got them right or I will be very cross
    Aggie

  84. Well done for persevering :-D

  85. I was really stupid I think I had a mental blockage with all that 12 inches and 1 foot think sorry!

  86. Are we doing the same thng tommorow

  87. You’ll have to wait for tomorrow for the next exciting instalment lol ;-)

  88. i cant figure out question 36

  89. hi can you explain Q.34
    plz thanx

    azaly :-D

  90. change it into pounds den change 10kg into pounds i think

  91. do u know q 36

  92. on 36 is 25mm bigr dan inches???????

  93. Mrs Tibble!! yes i am aware i’m not in your year 7 class. i emailed you but JUST INCASE YOU DON’T CHECK i think my phone fell out of my pocket in the car…. if you happen to see an (ugly) samsung sliding phone lying around on the seat of your car could you possibley bring it in and i will try and find you tomorrow? pleassse and thank you??!!!
    Freya

  94. Does anyone know how to work out question 36

  95. Dont worry i think ive done it

  96. hi can help me on Q.3 on 8F

  97. Change the km into cm then you’ll be able to add them.

  98. ok but does that mean that it would be 3cm

  99. or i think it will be 0.3

  100. Just reread the question and realised they want the answer in metres. Convert both measurements into metres and then add them.

Think Azaly! Are 3km and 3cm the same thing????

  101. thank u

    :-D

  102. I am really stuck on the homework because it doesn’t add up to 400.

  103. Hi Ella,

Each pair of results added up to 50 I thought so you should be OK. Just plot what you’ve got.

    Mrs T

  104. hi mrs tibble

i am really stuck on tonights homework please help me because i dont understand!!!

    Zoe

  105. hi mrs tibble

u dont hav to help me wiv evry q’s i would just lyk some help wiv how u do ex 21e pg 400

  106. Q1! What does 5x mean, Zoe?

So if 5 somethings make 10 what must the something be?

  107. thank you very i was very stupid not thinking like that.

    silly me!!!

  108. Soz about the stupid q but you know on the mock paper for the Y7’s you gave us today well I really don’t get Q 12 about: A pattern is to be drawn.
It will have rotational symmetry of order 4.
    The pattern has been started.
By shading six more squares, complete the pattern
    Aggie

  109. And why do I have to be the scary yellow blob it weird teeth?

  110. Hi Aggie,

The pictures are nothing to do with us: they are randomly generated by WordPress – sorry!

What is rotational symmetry? Look in your books if you have forgotten.
    What does order 4 mean?
You then have to finish colouring in the squares so that it has order 4 rotational symmetry.

  111. So is rotational symmetry when you turn a thng around? I’m confused I don’t seem to have a propper defenition in my book. I don’t seem to have order 4 either?????

  112. The order tells you how many times the thing looks the same when you rotate it through one full circle.

  113. Heya I Love Maths Does Anyone Like It Too?

  114. hi i forgot how 2 multiply fractions

    aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

is it when u multiply the 2 top numbers and the 2 bottom numbers

    plz help ;-)

    Azaly

  115. Yes.

But the numbers stay smaller/simpler if you cancel common factors on top and bottom first.

  116. Hi Mrs Tibble.

I am really confused when it comes to multiplying fractions. I’ve been on the mock exam paper and I was stuck on those questions and I don’t want to be stuck on them in the actual exam because you get a few marks for them. Can you please help me??

    Aimee-Louise

    p.s.
What homework did we get for after half term because I think I missed that lesson because it’s not written in my journal!!

    Thanks!

  117. Hi Aimee,

Homework was revise for your exams!!

Multiplying fractions is easier than adding or subtracting because you don’t need a common denominator.

Multiply the top numbers together to get the new top, and multiply the bottom numbers to get the new bottom. It will then need cancelling down to its lowest terms. You can do the cancelling first to keep the numbers small.

It’s hard to do an example on here because the fractions won’t type properly but if you rewrite this example as fractions with horizontal lines (so you have clear tops and bottoms) it will make more sense.

    Example:
    3/4 x 8/11
    =(3×8)/(4×11)
    =24/44
=6/11 (dividing top and bottom by 4)
This is doing it without cancelling first and you can see we have some big numbers.

Instead you can divide the 8 and the 4(one number on top and one number on bottom) by 4 before you multipy. Then it becomes
    (3×2)/(1×11)
    =6/11
which is already in its lowest terms because you got rid of the common factors first.

    Have a good week.
    Mrs T

  118. Thank you soo much Mrs Tibble!!

Also, I tried the mock exam on the GCSE Bitesize
    website and I got 95%!!

    Aimee

  119. Hehe! Well done – see you in Further Maths A level?

  120. Why not at university?

    Mr Riedel

  121. Why not indeed!!!!!!

  122. lol!! i was just looking back at the old comments we made.

yes i will be doing maths a level ;)

    lol

im not in year 7 anymore :(

  123. Hi,

Miss tibbles i don’t know how to get into mr Atkins maths blog so i going to ask you to explain some h/w for me.

We have been set h/w on page 313 exercise, question 5 and 6.

I know how to work out Q5 and 6 in formula form but we have to do it in graph form too, but i don’t know how.

    Q5. 9c + 2d = 54
    c + 2d = 6

    My answer:

    9c + 2d = 54
    c + 2d = 6
    8c + 0 = 48
    8c = 48
    c = 6

    c + 2d = 6
    6 +2d = 6
    d = 0

In formula form i work it to be: c-6, d-0

I don’t know how to do it in graph form

    Please may you help me!
