You can tell if a fraction will be an exact or a recurring decimal as follows: fractions with denominators that have only prime factors of 2 and 5 will be exact decimals. Others will be recurring decimals. This means that when you write the denominator of a fraction in its prime factor decomposition, if there are only 2’s and 5’s you will get an exact decimal.
For example, 1/8. The denominator is 8, which is 2 × 2 × 2. There are only 2’s in the prime factor decomposition so the decimal will be exact (and it is 0.125).
On the other hand, 2/9 has denominator 9 = 3 × 3 and 3 isn’t a 2 or a 5 so we have a recurring decimal (0.222222….).

This is something else… The software thingy is on the other post.
The idea is that this can be used to post some homeworks, revision notes, that sort of thing… Then I can leave you to discuss it all amongst yourselves!
Or you can ask questions and stuff, and if I’m in the mood I might reply ;-P

oh its alright. my mum left a recipe on the work surface when i got home, and i cooked it, and it was awful.
and my sister tried to fix her mp3 player, so i suggested she opened it up and had a poke around but then she dropped this screw about — this big in the cellar and she got angry. so we had to get on our knees and search for it, but couldnt find it, and she blamed it all on me. :C
but apart from that its going great.

So as this is the maths website…
anyone feel like patching up my terrible maths knowledge and teaching me how to do long division?
I have actually felt really sad since maths this morning because I’ve never been taught this fundamental skill everyone else seems to know..
and now I have to go and do History, which is making my evening even worse.
I might cry.

We’ll go over it Grace!
Laura – I’ve put a little counter in the side bar. Not sure if it’s working yet, but while it won’t yet tell you who’s online, it should say how many people are on the site at any one time.
All this will change shortly anyway when the new GDST network goes live. Then you will be able to IM etc. more easily. So they say. I won’t hold my breath!
